The challenge

Supervision, distribution, and day-of-spray activities happen in places where cell coverage can't be assumed — rural health posts, spray operation sites, and door-to-door distribution routes. A data collection tool that requires a live connection simply doesn't work in the conditions where the data is actually generated.

Field teams needed forms that were fast to fill out under real operational pressure, worked with zero connectivity, and produced data clean enough to feed directly into program reporting once synced.

The approach

I designed XLSForms and mobile workflows purpose-built for supervision, distribution, and day-of-spray activities, with offline reliability treated as a core requirement rather than an edge case.

  • Designed form logic and skip patterns around real field workflows
  • Built validation rules to catch data-entry errors on-device, before sync
  • Tested forms under offline and low-connectivity conditions
  • Coordinated sync and integration back into program reporting systems

The outcome

Supervisors and field teams got tools that worked the way their days actually work — with or without a signal — while program managers gained cleaner, faster data on distribution progress and spray operations without waiting for connectivity to catch up.
